GOREFEST Guitarist FRANK HARTHOORN: 'The Metal Flowed Freely'
July 29, 2006Guitarist Frank Harthoorn of the reunited Dutch metallers GOREFEST has posted the following message on the band's official web site:
"This weekend we found ourselves hot, sweaty, sticky and steaming. And we weren't even naked! On Friday, we had an early show at this year's sweltering Earthshaker Fest near Nurnberg, Germany. I think we went down pretty well, though I couldn't see much due to this huge fan on the side of the stage constantly blowing smoke and hair in my face. I mean, really, where did they find this thing, at Heinkel & Messerschmitt's? Good to see most of the Nuclear Blast crew enjoying themselves here, including NB America. As for the bands, I was most impressed by ONE MAN ARMY AND THE UNDEAD QUARTET, who I heard good things about, but who really surprised me. Also great to see ARCH ENEMY for a second time in a couple of weeks, can't go wrong there. I heard SAXON were awesome too, but sadly I had to skip them in favour of some much needed sleep.
"Sunday had us appearing at Metalcamp in Tolmin, Slovenia. The relatively short six-our drive had us in high spirits, especially when we heard it had taken a band like CALIBAN 15 hours to get them through the Alps. I guess our driver knew some serious shortcuts.
"Metalcamp is held in Tolmin, smack in the middle of the mountains. This makes for some great scenery and also some slightly unstable weather. It had been sunny all day, but whaddayaknow, two minutes before we're on, it starts to rain. Not that this matters much to us we're from the Netherlands, and rain is our #1 export product. So we went on like the troopers we are, and had ourselves one of our best shows in recent GOREFEST history. Yes, the metal flowed freely, and I'm glad we got to play to so many different nationalities here. Some people had been waiting for 15 years to see us, so it's double their pleasure to find us on one of our better days.
"Kudos to our trusty crew for getting us out there in what must have been a really gruelling weekend for them, what with doing multiple bands on different festivals. Special mention this time goes out to tour mistress Naomi, whose blessings are many. Not only do we always have the hottest chick on site at our beck and call, she also knows how to take care of things, and lift the more unpleasant stuff off our backs. Excellent job, woman!"
GOREFEST's latest album, "La Muerte", was released last October via Nuclear Blast Records.
